Congolese graves, Tervuren
In the summer of 1897 the World Fair was held in Brussels and Tervuren. An estimated 267 Congolese natives where shipped to Tervuren for the event. During the fair they cooked their meals in the traditional way, dressed scarcely, living in Belgian-made huts. The summer of 1897 was cold, many Congolese became ill, and seven of them died. They were buried next to the village church in Tervuren.
